After having undertaken a suite of bat surveys, including an initial building inspection and emergence surveys, at The Church of the Holy Cross, Bedfordshire, Windrush Ecology Ltd. has been involved in supervising repairs to the churches stonework and porch. Small numbers of pipistrelle bats are believed to use the porch as a roosting site and so works to repair this part of the church have been undertaken in a careful and controlled manner, with careful timing to avoid the bat activity period.
The Church of the Holy Cross is located within the small village of Slapton, near to Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire. The building dates back to the 13th Century and is a Grade II* Listed Building. The church is the latest in a number of church repair projects undertaken by WIndrush Ecology within the nearby counties of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
Windrush Ecology specialises in bat mitigation projects with regard to historic buildings and landscapes, particularly churches. Recent bat survey and mitigation projects have included Coventry Cathedral, St. Alban's Cathedral and Hampton Court Palace gardens.
